Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land that Marra School is built on. We pay our respects to Elders both past and present, and our future generations that learn, play and grow on this wonderful land. The land of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people is rich with history and we are honoured to have our school based in a place of cultural and spiritual significance.

Our Story

Marra School was built as part of the Government's proposal to build 100 new schools. We were in the final "batch" and opened alongside 18 other schools in January 2026. Marra has been the perfect choice of name for our school as the meaning of it is Community.

The school logo was designed for us by Sam Richards, owner of Connecting Two Worlds. Sam is an Indigenous artist who also worked on some designs of artwork to be used within the school (can we put an image of the school logo here).

The logo is a contemporary design, with the M for Marra being depicted as two people holding hands, representing people who come from all walks of life coming together, supporting each other, and working together. It is about the community around them, the staff, friends and family who guide the students to be who they want to be, without fear, without judgement, creating a safe space for all to be included and feel like they belong.

The two squares can also be interpreted as diamonds which represent protection, meaning that the students are protected and supported by the community.

The design of the school closely reflects the culture of the land that the school is built on. Elements include an amazing eel trap hanging in our admin building, the brickwork representing the weaving of the eel traps, and the colours throughout the school representing plants, fauna and the land we are on.

Marra's motto is 'Strength In Diversity' and our school vision is "To provide aspirational education ensuring wellbeing and learning growth for all students."

Principal's Message

It is my absolute privilege and honour to welcome you to Marra School. Marra is in the process of being built and will be ready to open to our wonderful students from day 1 of term 1, 2026.

As the founding Principal, I am proud of the school that we are building which will cater for students with a mild to profound intellectual disability. Our school will be a warm and welcoming space for our families and young people to support growth and development for all. Our school motto “Strength in Diversity” can be applied to our staff and students. We celebrate all the wonderful and amazing things that our students can do and our aim is to help students build on these strengths as they head through school and towards life beyond our school family.

The programs on offer at Marra will continue to evolve as the school grows over time and I am excited to be able to share this journey with our staff, students and families.

Thank you for sharing an interest in our lovely school. Use our website to find out more about what we have on offer at Marra, and please get in contact with us if you would like any further information or would like to arrange a tour.
